Director of Education Welcome Back Message Fall 2021

I welcome all students, staff and school communities on this first day back to school! We are energized and excited to begin the 2021-2022 school year with you!

With the resumption of predominantly full-time, in-person environments for schools and workplaces, I am confident in the protocols established to ensure our collective health and safety. We will continue to take a careful, cautious approach to the operations of the organization based upon the guidance of the Ministries of Education, Health and Labour, and adjust accordingly throughout the course of the school year when it is needed. For all matters related to student and staff safety during this ongoing pandemic, you may review our ‘Return to School and Workplace Resource Guide’.

We are also extremely enthusiastic about the launch of our renewed strategic plan this school year. With three key strategic priorities – Inspire Community Engagement and Partnerships, Empower Equity and Well-being, and Achieve Excellence in Teaching and Learning – the District will act on its priorities and manage our resources prudently while committing to measuring our progress over time. All stakeholders will receive the RCDSB’s Strategic Plan 2021-2025 this fall.

I am tremendously proud that the District will continue with its multi-year plan for the expansion of programs and services at the elementary level, including the introduction of French Immersion programs in the Deep River family of schools this school year, and the Madawaska Valley family of schools next school year.

This fall will be an opportunity to resume our review at the secondary level (‘rethink@secondary’) in order to continue our in-depth analysis of programs and services offered to students across all pathways – university, college, apprenticeship, community living and the workforce. This process will ultimately lead to the development and implementation of a multi-year plan for programs and service delivery for our families of schools at the secondary level.

Lastly, I am eager to state that we will be reaching out to all stakeholders – students, parents/guardians, staff, federation/union partners, members of our school communities – over the course of the upcoming school year to elicit your ideas and perspectives regarding our collective efforts as an organization.

By working together to foster outstanding educational experiences, I know that we will continue to celebrate our strengths and address areas for growth in the continued navigation of the ever-evolving educational landscape.

My door is always open and I welcome your feedback and input. Please do not hesitate to reach out should you have any feedback.

Enjoy the start of the new school year!
